Surfing the internet is a favorite pastime for lots of PC users. Everyone checks their email and their Face Book pages, but some individuals like to browse around until they stumble upon something new and interesting.
There are times when the intriguing, but unfamiliar, pages are noteworthy and deserving of another visit. There are other pages, however, that can quickly become annoying. These are the pages that come equipped with their own pop-up pages attached. Sometimes you come across a virus. At other times it may just be an annoying pop-up.
When you receive these the first thing that you want to do is check your internet settings. Make sure that you have your pop-up blocker turned on. If you still receive an excessive amount of pop-up pages you may want to consider scanning your computer to make sure that you do not have a virus.
Make sure no viruses are found after the completion of the hard drive scan. When you confirm that everything is clear you should conduct a search for new internet browsers. The browser that you are using may not have the best pop-up blocker settings available. There are other browsers available that may do a better job at protecting your computer from pop-up pages and banners.
If a change in your browser does not help you will have to obtain pop-up block software. These applications can usually be configured for light or heavy pop-up blocking. They can also be filtered to allow certain pop-ups while blocking others. This type of software can be purchased or downloaded for free.
Pop-up blocker software will greatly minimize the number of pages that randomly pop-up during your time online, but you also need to check your system setup. Make sure that you have your firewall settings turned on to block any incoming unwanted connections.
You may also need to run a hijack awareness program to make sure that you do not have a hijack program running on your computer. You can conduct a virus scan, but the hijack executable files do not always show up in the system as viruses. If your pop-ups continue you will need to acquire a hijack program to ensure that you do not have this type of program running on your system.
Hijacks are typically characterized by unauthorized changes in your homepage settings. They may also take control of your search results and redirect your links to other pages. It is at these times that you may experience pop-up pages. You may have to reset your registry and even run a system restore to undo these unauthorized changes.
Certain pop-up pages can annoy you, but you should not settle for the annoyance if you can avoid it. There are always methods available to help you minimize and eliminate the pop-up pages that you encounter. It’s a trial and error method, however, that takes time. The first or second steps may not yield the results you desire, but you can stop pop-ups if you’re persistent.
