Saving disk space on your computer is one way to increase the performance of your PC. Not having enough disk space can cause your computer to operate much slower, freeze, or crash. You can browse the files on your hard drive and delete the ones you no longer need. You can also delete files stored in the Windows Temporary folder on your C drive. This is the folder Windows uses to save temporary files. You can delete this folder if you have not saved any personal information in it. Deleting temporary internet files will also save disk space. You can turn off the System Restore feature to save disk space. The System Restore is used to recover Windows files. It does not recover files that are saved on your C drive. The System Restore is useful but requires a lot of space. You can simply turn it off if you feel you do not need it.
Computer users can turn off the Hibernate option to save space. The hibernation feature in Windows saves your information on your computer’s memory disk when you place your computer in hibernation mode. Disable this function if you find that you are never using it.
Defragment your hard drive to free up space. This needs to be done after you delete files on your computer because the remaining files become fragmented. Defragmenting your hard drive will organize your files to allow quicker access to them. It will not change the location of your files.
If you have large files you want to save and the hard disk on your computer is inadequate, you can use an external hard drive. This will prevent you from storing files on your computer’s hard drive and decreasing its performance. External hard drives are relatively inexpensive.
